User experience testing is a hot topic for mobile device vendors and network operators.
The R&S CMW500 – Communication Tester supports engineers to optimize the performance and user experience of their mobile designs in different fields and market segments. The achievable data rate of a mobile device is a basic but important feature and is determined by the capacity of the interfaces involved.
To discover possible throughput and performance limitations between the application server and the mobile device the R&S CMW500 – Communication Tester provides fully integrated and optimized servers together with throughput monitors, performance analysis and message analyzing tools. Acting as gateway to the internet, the R&S CMW500 – Communication Tester can monitor the communication channels to the internet used by applications by the powerful IP analysis and protocol statistic measurement and makes application testing fast and easy.
Rohde & Schwarz offers a compact solution for reproducible end-to-end functional and standard-compliant conformance testing of eCall and ERA-GLONASS In Vehicle Systems (IVSs). The R&S CMW‑KA094 eCall application software and the R&S CMW‑KA095 extension for ERA-GLONASS simulate public safety answering points (PSAP) and remotely control the R&S®CMW500 – Communication Tester to simulate a cellular network in the lab. They also control the R&S SMBV100A or B vector signal generator, which provides the GNSS coordinates required by the IVS to compile the MSD.
To verify whether the IVS modules are in line with the applicable standards, tests like MSD transmission timing, MSD decoding including GNSS position and, in the case of ERA-GLONASS, MSD transmission triggering via SMS are supported. To simplify conformance tests, the R&S CMW‑KT110 CMWrun sequencer software tool could be added. It provides ready-to-use test sequences for eCall and ERA-GLONASS modules in line with CEN and Russian GOST-R specifications. The R&S®CMW-KA096 extension for next generation eCall allows you to prepare today for future LTE and IMS based eCall systems for vehicles.
The R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester comes with everything needed for testing VoLTE, VoWLAN and WLAN traffic offload functions on consumer devices. On the Data Application Unit, the tester provides all access technologies and all necessary servers, such as an ePDG and an IMS server.
It tests the handover between LTE and WLAN as well as single radio voice call continuity (SRVCC), i.e. the handover between LTE and legacy networks such as GSM and UMTS.
The R&S A-GNSS option is ideal for testing the A-GNSS based position location performance of a mobile phone using customer-defined scenarios. It provides detailed numeric, statistical and graphical analysis of the accuracy of the calculated position as well as visual representation on a map.
The R&S CMW-KA090 test software for A-GNSS is a PC-based application which connects to the R&S SMBV100A signal generator and a R&S CMW500 communication tester in order to perform Assisted GNSS (A-GNSS) tests in a lab environment.
POLQA and PESQ are objective perceptual speech test methods. A speech test method rates the quality of a speech signal as opposed to a conversational rating where impairments such as round-trip delay are judged for their impact on a conversation. A perceptual test method assesses degradations in the same way as human beings would. Non-perceptual test methods usually determine physical entities like voltage level.
The R&S CMW500 wideband communication tester and the R&S UPV audio analyzer are the perfect team for manually or fully automatically measuring cuirquit switched 2G and 3G as well as Voice over LTE (VoLTE) PESQ and POLQA speech quality. Ready-to-use test sequences with the R&S CMWrun sequencer software tool makes testing fast and easy.
The Data Application Unit of R&S CMW500 provides an integrated IMS server which offers the ability to test with several DUTs (IMS subscribers) in parallel. Also true end-to-end media connections between two mobile devices can be tested. The virtual subscriber concept allows users to create multiple virtual remote stations that have different characteristics and functionalities. This approach enables users to verify a variety of IMS services e.q. Voice calls, Conference calls, rich-communication services (RCS) quickly and effectively. Also interoperability testing of real phones with different hardware or firmware versions are possible with this appoach.
Assuring the quality of video/audio characteristics, such as timing, buffer models and synchronization between video and audio the R&S CMW500 Data Application Unit is the ideal platform for verification of streaming performance of a mobile device to ensure that the user experience and the expected quality of product is delivered to the end user. You can use the web portal of the DAU to test video streaming with your mobile under test using different access technologies provided with the R&S CMW500. In addition, the channel can be modified via IP impairments or through fading scenarios. This allows real test conditions in a fully controlled environment. This is the perfect base for extensive video performance test scenarios focusing on video quality or battery consumption when a video is streamed to the device under test.
Test setup to analyze IP data traffic of mobile devices
R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester, equipped with the R&S CMW-KM052 analysis option, enables mobile and IoT device vendors or car telematics unit vendors for the first time to improve the security of IP-based data communication in an early stage of the development. Equipped with the new reporting module the CMW500 performs an analysis of the IP traffic in real-time in a controlled test environment. The R&S CMW500 emulates a controlled mobile network or a WLAN access point and users receive a detailed overview of security-related parameters. Developers can detect and close security gaps at an early stage of the development process.
